SMOCKING

GRASSHOPPER, KANGAROO. APRIL 2019.

Objective

Produce a rigorous parametric framework for smocking fabric, represented by a triangular mesh, in Grasshopper. Use cases include estimating the amount of fabric needed to output a smocked cloth of the desired size.

(This problem has been nagging at me ever since, during this project, I was told it was not possible to do this computationally.)

Outcome

I modelled this definition after Michele Carragher's tutorial. The code allows the user to determine the geometry of the triangle used for the smock, after which it is a matter of activating the two Kangaroo modules to output the final smocked fabric. It would be relatively straightforward to code in new smocking patterns as desired.
